Kernow Transport Links Scenario Pack 01 - West Somerset Railway

Description

Hi, and welcome to my first scenario pack for Train Sim World. Well, first, many in the community will know me as DTG Rob Powell, part of the Gameplay Team for TSW at DTG. This is the first pack that I am releasing publicly, made entirely using the public editor. I have dabbled in the past, but wasn't 100% happy with my work, so I never released them. I am pleased with this pack of three scenarios, though.

The idea is that you are spending the day in the life of a driver at a fictional Gala on 10/07/2027 at the WSR, involving all the active Westerns, barring the Western Champion, who will be bringing in a rail tour the next day. You'll start your day shunting around stock and Minehead, before taking the first run of the day from Minehead and the last run of the day from Bishops Lydeard (starting at Stogumber for reasons you will discover when you play the scenario chain.)

Included is a journey mode to play the approximately 3 and 1/2 hours of content as I, the author, intended, or you can select a scenario at a time from the usual menu. If not using journey mode, the suggested run order is as follows:

  • Early Morning Start
  • First of the Day From Minehead
  • Best Laid Plans

I will now give a synopsis of each scenario:


1: Early Morning Start.

You have just clocked on for the day's festivities at Minehead. The first train isn't due out until 09:17, so you have plenty of time to shunt the stock around this morning before grabbing breakfast. Traffic will be moving around you, but you'll know when to hold position and when to move. The weather isn't particularly friendly and is worsening. The runtime: Approximately 45 minutes.

2: First of the Day From Minehead.

Take the first of the day from Minehead with Western Ranger as your ride for the day. You'll set up the train from Warm and drive from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. There are token exchanges on the route at all three passing points (Blue Anchor, Wiliton, and Crowcombe Heathfield), operating the first-in, last-out rule. You'll be dispatched only when the token is presented to you. (Author's note: until I build my own railfans, I found myself limited to what I could access in the railfans, so the token exchanges are dialogue-based.)

3: Best Laid Plans.

It was supposed to be a simple final run from Bishops Lydeard (starting at Stogumber) to Minehead, but this being a gala, something was bound to happen, and you drew the short straw. Can you get the punters home to Minehead in deteriorating conditions and light?


As mentioned previously, a Journey Mode is available for this pack, guiding you through the experience. Yes, I used the locked chapters feature of this mode (boooo), but only because I wanted this to be a curated experience where you play through each scenario in turn in a mega session. Future packs I do will also feature journey modes, but these will not be chapter locked as I know how disliked that feature is by the wider TSW community.

Instalation Instructions:

The pak file should be installed to C:\Users\insertuserhere\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld6\Saved\UserContent and NOT the main content folder. This was a recent change. It should theoretically work in the content folder but I tested it at this location. The reason UserContent is now used is so that when you select disable mods for troubleshooting via support, this mod no longer loads.

IMPORTANT: As I have not used version naming for the files, please remember to delete rather than overwrite the pak file in the location you installed it to

A Wet Start (Scenario 1):

  • Fixed audio being played during fade-out after getting to the office.
  • Removed 'Exit the Cab' objectives after coupling/uncoupling to the stock, as a lot of players will get out of the cab to couple/uncouple the stock together anyway.
  • Added Railfans as visual reference points as to where to stop the rear of the consist in Scenario 1 for players who do not have track markers enabled.
  • Added audio with dialogue explaining where to locate the reference markers in scenario 1.
  • Hid the complete Ribbon for the final instruction so as not to add unnecessary visual items to the scripted ending.

First of the Day From Minehead (Scenario 2):

  • Corrected title so only First and Minehead begin with capital letters.
  • Checked and double-checked that the appropriate wait instructions in the objectives have their timers correctly set to avoid issues with dispatch.

Best Laid Plans (Scenario 3):

  • Corrected title so only Best begins with a capital letter
  • Re-added objective complete ribbons after every timetable objective for those with hearing impairments who need the visual cue, except for the last instruction, so as not to interfere with the outro.
  • Checked and double-checked that the appropriate wait instructions in the objectives have their timers set correctly to avoid issues with dispatch.
  • Added audio with subtitles explaining that a decision has been made to run as an express service, stopping at Blue Anchor on the way down only.

General fixes:

  • All scenarios prefixed with '[KTL]'.

Version 1.2:

A Wet Start (Scenario 1):

  • Ensured the final objective chain can be completed in TSW6 and not just the editor

First of the day from Minehead (Scenario 2):

  • Tested in-game and not just the editor to ensure it is working

Best Laid Plans (Scenario 3):

  • Tested in-game and not just the editor to ensure it is working`
