In 2020, CN unveiled a tier of five heritage units with CEO JJ Ruest to mark the 25th anniversary of becoming a publicly-traded company. Prior to 1995, CN was not only the largest, but oldest Crown Corporation in Canada. Ever since going public, Canadian National Railway has gone on to acquire five major railroads: Grand Trunk Western {GTW}, Illinois Central {IC}, Wisconsin Central LTD {WC}, Elgin Joliet & Eastern {EJ&E}, and BC Rail {BCOL}.
