43028 - Intercity/"Irish Mail"

During 1997, Longsight depot took it upon themselves to modify 43028's paintwork, around it's cab. This involved painting the cab front red, from the cantail stripe to the bottom of the headlights (along with painting the cab sides red), and adding white and grey stripes (badly; Stevie Wonder could've done a better job of them, to be honest!). Needless to say, TOC management weren't impressed by their efforts and ordered the power car to be reverted to standard colours.
