In 1986, Vancouver hosted Expo 86, a world exposition centered on transportation and communication. As one of the event’s corporate sponsors, CP Rail commemorated the occasion by repainting six of its SD40-2 locomotives in a distinctive, eye-catching livery.
The redesign replaced CP Rail’s traditional “Pac-Man” logo on the rear of the units with a bold diagonal white stripe spanning the back third of the locomotive. This was complemented by vibrant red, yellow, and blue accents—colors inspired by Color Wars, a film featured at the fair that symbolized energy, innovation, and global connection.
