New South Wales Government Railways 422 Class

Description

New South Wales 422 Class diesel locomotives were built by Clyde Engineering, Granville in 1969. They were the first Australian locomotives to be built with non-streamlined dual cab bodies.

The locomotives spent most of their career with New South Wales Railways on the Main South and Illawarra lines, hauling passenger and freight services.

In July 1995, the 422 Class were allocated to interstate duties, before returning to FreightCorp in September 1997, when most locomotives were taken out of service. During the 2000s, the locomotives were transferred to private companies.

Today, eight locomotives remain in service with Aurizon, One Rail Australia and Watco Australia.
