Briefing: Wales and Borders operated two pairs of trains per day into Liverpool. The first pair was a morning Cardiff arrival that went to Milford Haven, the second was more obscure. The 1F06 0600 Portsmouth Harbour – Cardiff Central would be formed of two units from Wessex Trains. At Newport, the service would split, with the front unit continuing onto it’s final destination while the rear unit would turn around and promptly head to Liverpool as the second train, returning to Newport to join another Cardiff – Portsmouth service. Today you will oversee the Liverpool bound working as far as Shrewsbury, which somehow has found WB 158817 on the rear of 1F06.
