Route: Saluda Grade
Duration: 90 min
Year: 1999
The Saluda Grade was not long for this world by the time the Dash-9 was arriving in large numbers for the Norfolk Southern. These new 4,000-horsepower units would get their chance at tackling the grade in the twilight years of the line, hauling both coal and manifest traffic.
Today's train, W77, has been assembled in Hayne Yard after the departure of the regular #377 earlier. W77, operating as the extra section of the Spartanburg - Asheville #377, will forward additional cars up the Saluda Grade.
