Please read the included PDF manual to ensure you're getting the most out of this mod
v1.1
- An update to WCMLS in anticipation of the Enhancement Pack's release
v1.01
- An update fix for the Medium Pre-set only that corrects an error I'd made that was causing a graphical glitch on WCMLS.
Enjoy!
As I'm sure you can appreciate, keeping this mod up-to-date is both time consuming and expensive. Some people have kindly offered to gift me DLC and up to this point I've resisted but as people keep asking I've set up a kofi page. If you wish to donate a small (and I mean small) amount then I'd be very grateful. I will continue to purchase the DLC I would have anyway, but any funds received will go towards ones that I would otherwise have waited for a sale for. Heartfelt thanks again to anyone that has donated to the cause, it is hugely appreciated
Thankyou and I hope you enjoy the mod

FYI, tested 8 routes and only crashes in Trenton route when exiting the tunnel towards New York Penn.
Using "2 Ultra v2.1.ini".
Workaround: removing the INI changes fixes the crash in Trenton route. You can have the INI changes on and just save the game before entering the tunnel to NYP station. Then remove changes and load the saved game. After exiting NYP and tunnel again, put changes back in.
Update: Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000050
Nothing useful in the logs. Settings are:
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=0
r.Streaming.PoolSize=8000
r.Streaming.MaxTempMemoryAllowed=6000
r.RenderTargetPoolMin=3000
Running RTX 4070 (12 GB), AMD CPU with 128GB RAM
I'll continue experimenting and as I said before, there's a perfectly good workaround so I don't think this is of any priority.
PS. Forgot to mention I'm using DirectX 12.
are u still getting crashing since update to the route as i have this route and not played it because of the issues but seen there was a patch to it back on october 31st 2023
how do you guys actually get the routes tho?
im trying to get the bakerloo line
You buy them...
Thanks again JetWash. Throwing this out to everyone, so in the dying days of TSW3, I had around 270 active mods running and the game looked amazing, in part with these cool .ini settings found here. However, as a general rule of thumb is it ok to copy all 270 .pak files over to TSW4, or is it more a case of adding one at a time and see what happens? What do others do on here please?
At the minute almost of all TSW3 compatible mods will crash the game or cause wacky behaviour. The only mods that work are the ones on here listed as TSW4 compatible
Sucks doesn’t it?
Hey I have two questions.
First I have a RTX 3080 10gb card. Which of the files shoulld I use? To avoid getting the timed out error?
And how can I be sure I'm using dx 12?
Thanks for your time and your assistance
You need to set -DX12 in the launch parameters in Steam. I’ve added a link to the installation instructions box above describing how to do it.
As per the manual you will need to set the streaming parameters to suit your card. Assuming you don’t play in 4K I would use the Ultra (12GB) cards preset, then change the 3 numbers as described in the manual to 8000, 4000, 2000. That should work just fine. If you do play in 4K then I think High might be better suited for you.
That makes sense. Thanks for your assistance. It was greatly appreciated
It seems like since the last update I can't get your mod to work. It used to work with the Harlem line but not anymore. I've followed all the instructions here and it doesn't work.
DTG’s update yesterday nerfed many mods and all ones that touched the core. GodMode was one of those and sadly it took this mod with it as a result.
Happily, late last night (like, beyond the call of duty late) DTG rolled back the mod part of the patch and all is now working again.
I'll try it again. You think I'll need to download God mode again?
Nope, all good. it will just work.
ok thanks! it's working so far. takes a little while to load though
That's nothing to do with this mod.
I think I got the problem solved. Turns out I was still inadvertently using dx 11 when I swore I had dx 12 activated. Welp I finally was able to enter -dx12 the correct way.
So far, no crashes and the frame rates run smoothly for the most part except for an occasional stutter or two. It even runs on routes that would cause my game to crash to desktop throwing the 1.20 error codes or something like that. It runs better for the most part
hi - i am trying to get this to work with the windows / xbox version, i am not convinced the additions to the engine.ini are working ( the folder structure is a little different, no windowsnoeditor folders, WinGDK instead), and adding the signal visuals pak to the dlc folders stops the game loading when it is some route DLCs, but not others ( i know on xbox app version it needs to be in each individual dlc folder to work) - any help would be really appreacited thanks
Having the same issue
Really sorry guys, I thought I had replied to this message. Having asked Foobian when this question was first asked it turns out that in the Windows version .sav files are encrypted and hidden somewhere deep in the Windows infrastructure. No idea why that’s the case but it is, which is a huge shame. As such the mod as it is is not compatible with the Windows version of the game.
However, as a work around you can do the following.
- Pick and download your chosen pre-set
- Acquire and install the freeware Notepad++
- Unzip the downloaded pre-set and put the GodMode.sav on your desktop. Once done, right click on the file, select open with and select Notepad++
- Once that opens you can see the contents of the file. On first viewing it looks a bit of a mess but everything will be intact
- Scroll or search for your chosen route (each pre-set is preceded by the route name) then select all of the lines in the pre-set (ordinarily it will start with ‘r.ViewDistance=‘ and end with the line about passengers. Right click then click copy (or Ctrl+C). Go into the game then paste the text into the dynamic.ini for your chosen route and click the pointer symbol in the top right to apply. To be sure it’s applied you can exit to the main menu then load back into your route and will be well
As I said, not ideal but at least it allows you to use the mod.
Cheers
Legend it worked thank you!
Great news. I’m just sorry it’s such a faff for you to do!
No problem, the INI and Godmode.SAV saves ingame so ive done it correctly lol
they are in : C:\Users%User%\AppData\Roaming.1911\00000000-0000-0000-0000-00006486515a\UE4DefaultSaveGameContainer
sorry no hate but this version is absolutely joke.... its so much work and the results are so little. The whole TOD4 is a big mess and with this mod its stil the same. For personally i have never understand what the reason was why DTG this have chosen. The TOD3 was way more better en less performance hungry. For sure on the Left Rhine route you can see what a beautiful mess the lightning is and youre whole tutorial is not fixing this at all. Sorry and thanks for youre work but i pass
I completely disagree (as do many others) but that’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it.
Good luck coming up with something better.
TOD3 is inferior to TOD4 in pretty much every way. The lighting of it is absolutely terrible, and looks and works nothing like reality. TOD4 is Objectively an improvement.
If installing a mod, and placing a single file is too much work for you, you should probably stop coming to a modding website, and swap to the console version of games.
Let me explain a little better.... The TOD4 it self should be okay but the way how DTG has use it in the game is a big mess. It could be very nice but they have only activate TOD4 without a quality check. So i hope you understand my opinion better.
I hadn’t seen you’d replied to this. I agree that DTG have made a pigs ear of ToD4, and ToD3 inside of a ToD4 game, which is exactly what this mod fixes. By any measure this mod massively improves the visuals of this game so no, I don’t understand your opinion. This mod is anything but a ‘joke’.
While I appreciate how much work must have gone into this latest update, this has became far too over complicated for me. While ToD 4 definitely can do with changes to look and run better, needing to apply the ini per route and constantly adjusting the skylight intensity is just a bit of a faff if I'm honest when I just want to get into the game and drive something. Plus, now that free mode is a thing, I don't have much use for God Mode (I know it has other uses though, so I'll enable it if I need it), so I don't want to have it always enabled for something I see as a trivial reason. Instead, I'd rather just customise my own livery which works in all scenarios and then not have to think about it. So again, I appreciate the work that would've gone into this update, and I have enjoyed using your ini in the past, but it's a pass from me if I'm honest.
This version is in many ways identical to the previous version. The main difference is it is applied on a per route basis to allow individual tuning. I have also refined it considerably further (in other words, made it better). I have already applied it on a per route basis (I.e. I’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to), so I’m not entirely sure what the problem is. Installation is now drag and drop rather than copying and pasting text so again, I don’t really see how that counts as ’complicated’ but no snags, if you don’t like it, don’t use it. It’s your prerogative.
Again, I appreciate the hard work you've put into it, and it's good to have the option to have something that's fine tuned to each route. My problem is that I personally just prefer a one and done solution. Get it in, and don't need to think about it unless I want to change something. I don't want to have to keep thinking about changing things all the time, cause I'll be honest, I'm forget. And sure, it's an easier install, but as someone who does codes, edits .json files, does hex editing ect., doing anything in the Engine.ini is really no big deal to me. So it's not me criticising, and I'm sure many people will prefer how this is set up, but for me personally, I'd just like to get the .ini changed and not need to think about it when playing the game. So I apologise if it comes across as criticism, but it's more so just my opinion.
Again, this is as you’ve described. You don’t need to change anything if you don’t wish.
I’m still not sure what your point is though, unless you’re expecting me to make 5 different versions for every available GPU VRAM on the market? Personally, I don’t think typing in 3 numbers one time is actually that taxing. The slider thing is your choice, and is identical to the version I made for TSW3. The whole point here is that one size doesn’t, and can’t fit all. There are two different TOD systems in use and thanks to the unique way DTG makes games multiple different levels of lighting, bloom, screen brightness etc etc in the game. You cannot make one set of changes to encompass all of those differences without massive compromise. This is infinitely better.
As I said, it’s your choice whether or not to use it, I’m just not sure why you felt the need to tell everyone you don’t want to?
Cause while I may not be criticising, I'd have thought that you'd have appreciated my opinion on it. As someone who makes liveries, I like to hear what people think about that regardless of what it is they have to say. But if not, then that's fine. And yeah, I know there isn't a size that fits all, but that isn't what I said. I said I prefer just getting the ini in and not thinking about it again. If that means that I have to turn some stuff down so that the game can cope on the more intensive routes, so be it.
All I'm really saying I guess is that I preferred how it was before. Just get the ini into the game, and then you can do the skylight intensity thing if you want, but there's no requirement to download anything but the ini if you don't want to. But if this is your vision for the mod going forward, that's fair enough. I'm not going to argue about it, cause it's your mod, so it's up to you ofc. But I'm not going to keep going back and forth about this since we clearly have very different ideas about things.
But for the third time, that’s exactly what this is. It is no different. You don’t need to download anything other than the preset, which is a drag and drop.
If you’re talking about GodMode then again, no big deal there either right? The overwhelming feedback during testing, just as I was thinking it myself, was ‘wouldn’t it be cool to use GodMode’s dynamic ini’?
If it really bothers you that much the TOD4 settings are in the Dresden-Riesa .txt file. Copy and paste those into your main ini file and you’ll have it just as it was before.
I am utterly dense - I can't figure oout what sub-group in the God Mode app that dynamic ini is at. I've even gone over the description again on that mod's page here...
Top right corner, next to the settings cog (where you find the zoomier zoom tick box) there is a small file icon that says .ini in it click on that and you'll the dynamic.ini boxes
Thank you! I'm a little sad to see my card (3070) has now been downgraded to 'high' instead of 'ultra', but your route defaults + the vegetation replacement mods look outstanding now!
Hey, that’s brilliant to hear. IIRC the only real difference between Ultra and High is the resolution of the shadows. There might be one other small thing but unfortunately the shadow resolution is massively intensive.
Many thanks for the hard work on this! I for one truly like and appreciate the dynamic approach and turning this into a comprehensive package. And most importantly, the results are fantastic! My 3090 with this game now actually looks like a real champ.
thankyou, glad you're enjoying it ! As a 3090 user too I think I've managed to improve the shadows further if you set the resolutions on the TOD4 routes to 6144-3072-6144 (use 2048 for ECML for the middle number) and adjust the number of cascades to 5 it looks really good!
Those adjustments look good. Checked on ECML and Vorarlberg and everything looks pretty sharp. I'm fighting some flickering on ECML (stupid fences) but otherwise this is as good as it has ever been. Thanks!
The flickering is down to the cascaded shadow resolution. On ECML around dawn the performance can really hit because of those shadows. You could set 3072 as a normal setting and use 2048 if you ever find it suffering because of the time of day.
That’s the beauty of being able to change it in-game and on a route by route basis!
Arosa and Sherman hill are missing too
Replied to this privately but just for others to be aware;
As I said in the manual, I can only make presets for DLC I own. The two mentioned I do not own, hence they are missing. Instructions on how to deal with this are in the manual itself. Cheers.
i have your high settings on also god mode and reshade but got alot of frame drops more so on east coast mainline also i want to know do u need to do disk clean up on each train run u do or only everytime before launching TSW4? please reply asap im on a i7 11700 k also 64gb ram ddr4 and gigabyte 3060 frame rate on ecml was around 45fps but drop in more so around just outside doncaster to 25fps and alot of the trees had motion blur
i'm having the same issue you're having and i'm using an rtx 3080 card. some of the other american routes give me better frame rates though
Chances are you simply have too high settings/resolution for your GPU. The next version should be out imminently which I think sees improvements across the board.
hi - i have the godmode working fine in TSW4 microsoft store on PC version, but i cannot add this mod as i do not have save game folders, no matter where i put the .sav file my dynamic.ini in godmode does not pick it up, any help would be really appreciatted thanks
I don't own the Microsoft Store version but suspect you'll need to access your AppData folder (Google how to do it). Once you done that search your main hard drive for *.sav and it should point you to where the GodMode.sav file is located. Let me know how you get on as I can add it to the manual.
thanks JetWash - i have searched the whole of my drive for any .sav files to indicate where i may be able to place the GodMode.sav file, and there isnt any at all - i found all the TSW4 folders / files in AppData and tried the GodMode.sav in every place i could think of, but at no point did the mod pick it up in dynamic.ini in game - i am stumped :( i am pleased i got the God Mode to work ( and it does , i have played with a few settings) but i just cannot get this mod to be recognised at all
Just thought I would say thanks. I have been using your mod for a couple of weeks with the ECML and was really happy with the results I obtained using this mod. I had a look at the Preston - Blackpool & Ormskirk route last night and was struggling to get a graphics setup that did not result in me pulling my hair out. Got back from work today and downloaded your latest version of the mod and Bobs your Uncle the differance to the feel and quality of the graphics is just astounding. Not sure how you manage to achieve this but again thanks for the hard work. It also makes me wonder why DTG completeley fails to optiimise the graphics on their routes. It makes me think of the advert for a highstreet opctician and they really should have gone there.
That's awesome to hear! It had me ripping my hair out too ;-)
Just another thanks & 2 questions - with my 3070, should I still be using the 'high' version (after our previous discussion of the shadows), and Blackpool doesn't come up in the custom INI settings area - the route simply loads as 'PBR'. Is that normal?
I can't tell you that, only you can tell what works for you. Try high, if the performance isn't good enough try Medium.
You're correct, PBR is Blackpool.
High has been working beautifully. I remember you saying that 'Ultra' would render shadows at levels that are just too much for the 8GB of my 3070.
I gave this mod a try although it's not simply copying a PAK into the TSW folder. Thanks to your manual I managed to install god mode and the mod.
In "9.TL:DR Checklist" it tells me to delete my engine.ini file ?? I did not do this because it was not mentioned in the Installation chapter 4. So far I did not use the reshader but the rest seems to work.
Thanks for your excellent mods !!!
You’re right, I’ll remove or amend it when I next update the manual.
The reason it’s in there is many people have stuff in their main engine.ini and that will conflict with this mod. Rather than try to explain in detail (because people) how to remove that, the easiest way to do it is to delete that file. The game will create a new default one next time you run it, hence I suggested that as an option.
ReShade is entirely optional, don’t feel you have to use it. It just helps with the jittering objects that TAA in UE4 is famous for.
In the Past Few Weeks, I have not had much computer time, well except at times like now at 0335 hrs.
I just finished downloading v3.5 and going through the manual, as I get to:
7. Adjusting The Settings For Yourself.
All the settings are missing their respective settings figures,
as in r.ViewDistanceScale=
In the v3.4 manual, it shows r.ViewDistanceScale=2
Is this an error? Or intended to be left up to each player to fill in?
Or can the settings be taken from the v3.4 manual? And added in as needed.
The numbers are already in the presets for each route. That part of the manual is simply describing what each line does, and the numbers being there was misleading as they weren’t applicable to any specific route. IIRC I took them from a very old version of the file and that’s why I removed them.
In other words, if you wish to edit the presets then the numbers are already there. If you wish to set up a new route that I don’t have then as described in the manual you are best copying and pasting a pre-set from another like-for-like route and editing the numbers to suit. The fact that you appear to have been copying the numbers from the manual shows I was right to remove them! 😊
No No I did not copy any of the numbers, I was only wondering, was it an error or if you removed them, because of confusion. I changed Nothing, everything is working just as you set it up.
Good, glad it’s all ok.
I'm sticking to TSW3, as I suppose many others do, mainly because, among other reasons not to comment in here, the relative lack of TSW4 compatible mods. This particular mod of yours is astonishing so, could it be possible to have a TSW3 compatible verion of it all, including all the profiles, not only the low one? Many thanks for yor amazing work!
Thankyou. This should work just fine with TSW3, I just haven’t specifically tuned it to that game but on paper it should work. In theory there should be no difference between TSW4 and 3 lighting but obviously I can’t guarantee that.
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm giving it a try in TSW3. I suppose I will need to tinker a little here and there with the values, following your guiding in your nicely made manual, but I'm sure it's worth it! Many thanks again!
No probs. Let me know how it is, if it works I’ll update the TSW3 version with this. I should have checked myself whether or not it worked! 🤦🏼♂️
Will try this weekend and comment afterwards about the experience here, Thanks again!
As commented, I´ve been using this mod with TSW3. I'm speechless sir! A huge visual and amazing inmersive change! No stuttering (2nd pass on the route), almost no shimmering, almost no sudden pop ups (some grass in high velocity), good FPS even in saturated stations like London Victoria, and a little ghosting in tunnels so far. My PC specs are not precisely those of a high end (i7 3.7GHz, 16 GB RAM, trusty NV GTX 1650S 4GB in 1920x1080 res, SATA SSD), So I'm using your "medium" preset and your NV control panel settings without other modification to your guidance than using NIS, r.ShadowQuality=2, and relevant r.Shadow parameters set to 1024 (as for my monitor's resolution) . Running the sim in DX12 with 302 mods installed. I've made complete scenario runs on TSW2 routes (London to Brighton, West Cornwall local, LGV Marseille Avignon) and TSW3 ones (Midland Mainline, Cajon Pass, Kassel Wurzburg) so far. All perfect, inmersive and seamless! Amazing huge piece of work sir! If you have a look at it just "as is" in TSW3, I'm sure you are going, as a seasoned modder you are, to notice what I can't, and perhaps even improve the whole set or adapt it proper. I'll keep on using this meanwhile, with the tweakings mentioned, and enjoying the, for me, new incredible enhancement. Will for sure comment in here if I run into a problem or a remarkable concern usig it. Many many thanks again for your big effort on doing this lovely mod for all of us.
That’s fantastic to hear! So glad it’s working for you, and particularly pleasing it’s working well on a machine of that spec. Thankyou.
I upgraded to this latest version last night, and made all the changes noted in the manual for the Nvidia control panel - I noted a number of them were outright reversals of some of the settings you shared publicly on the TSW forums back during TSW3 - on the new Maintalbahn route, I'm getting a LOT of tree & foliage pop-in. I will check other routes tomorrow. These were the settings I used to have locked in for TSW3 & TSW 4:
The Nvidia CP settings have nothing to do with pop-in or anything like it. Someone asked for my settings so I provided them, but they actually have very little effect on the game. They tinker around the edges and add the icing to the cake but nothing more than that. There may well be some outright reversals to something I mentioned a significant time ago but then that was TSW3, this is a ‘different game’ and a totally different version of this mod. Removing the recommendation to use Image Scaling is one such change. Either way the settings you’ve posted above are not the same as the settings I shared in the manual.
To answer your question; I don't own the new route so obviously there is no preset for it. If you look at the dynamic.ini for Maintalbahn in GodMode you’ll see that it is blank. What you're seeing there in terms of tree pop-in etc is therefore the default behaviour of the game I'm afraid. To re-iterate, if a route is not listed on Page 9 in the ‘Included Pre-Sets’ section of the manual (clue is in the name) then it isn’t included and there is no preset for it. Again, what to do in this situation is covered on the same page.
Thanks for the prompt response! Those Nvidia settings are from back in your in-depth thread during TSW3. I've got what you suggested in the latest manual update set now. I didn't realize you didn't have the new route in the file (my bad!).
an incredible mode that I have just tested while respecting the readme. well done and thank you
Thankyou. Glad you’re enjoying it!
I just wanted to post a quick follow-up - since Maintalbahn is another in-house DTG German route - I decided to throw caution to the wind and copy over your settings from Voralberg + the 75% skybox level. It made a WORLD of difference to the route, and no more foliage pop-in!
Excellent news, really pleased to hear it ;-) Does it help the distant scenery too? I would hope it did.
Yes it does. No problem with far-distance areas looking 'empty'.
I bought Maintalbahn today and have set up a preset for it. It will come with v3.6 which I’ll aim to release after the Midland Mainline patch has released. I want to see if that route needs another pass which I believe it will.
Maintalbahn on v3.6 is just astounding! I grabed a 0715 service to check out the performance at sunrise & it's flawless! No stutter or pop-ins noted at all...
Although is mentioned above as included, cannot find S-Bahn Zentralschweiz: Luzern - Sursee in any of the settings. Any suggestions about some values to copy from another route, or to put in by myself in GodMode? Using Medium preset. This mod has become essential... Thanks a lot!
I’m not sure where that route is listed as included, I certainly haven’t listed it as I don’t own it. I’m sure we can figure something out though. Which would be the best one to go for is a bit trial and error but maybe try Midland Mainline. You will likely need to tweak it from there if it’s not satisfactory. Glad you’re enjoying the mod!
Thank you for your soon response! It's listed in the box "About this mod", section "Train Sim World Content", in alphabetical order, eighth line from the bottom, but no worries! I will try MML as a base and will tell yow how it "feels". Thank you very much again.
By the way. I bought that route, although very poorly rated in the reviews, due to the possibility of trying ETCS system level 1. The reviews were right sadly... ETCS Is terribly implemented, up to the point to really annoy you, the lighting is really poor at the least, and at night is almost unplayable, among other "delicacies"... But, at least you can get a very slight idea of what ETCS is, so, I'd better don't cry over spilled wine...
Tested. MML was not a proper base, as for the results. After giving it a try I realized it was a TSW3 route, and Luzern is a TSW2. So, following your advice in the manual, I tested it again with LGV route's settings as a base, tweaking here and there. Much better now, although lighting keeps on being a little dark from inside the cabin. But really well compared to the unmodded one! Headlights keep on not being useful at all, but that's a well known bug present since the route was released, and never fitted. Thanks again.
Ah, I see what you’re saying. The box is ticked as technically the mod is compatible with that route (as in, you can input a set of commands into the box for that route) but you’re correct, there is no preset. I’ll edit that and change the boxes to reflect which routes have presets. I think it was a hangover from the TSW3 version.
Regarding the darkness, look for the setting r.colormid= and start with a setting of 0.8. Change that up or down in increments of 0.02 until you find a setting that works. You may also need to change the skylight intensity setting too.
Many thanks for the advice. I'm using r.colormid=0.88 and skylight intensity on 0.82. Perhaps a little "shiny" but now it's working for my liking, after the "darkness" :)
If it's shiny reduce the skylight intensity, try 0.4 to 0.6
Thanks. Will try!
0.62 did the trick! Thank you!
Brilliant!
Got this error when starting up. Believe its something to do with this. This is the error: LowLevelFatalError [FileUnkown] [Line: 1038]
I'm absolutely certain that what you're seeing there is nothing to do with this unless you're using a pre-set that is too much for your hardware (the only possible explanation), or you have an overclock or undervolt on your GPU that is too aggressive. Those two things aside I’m not sure what it could be, but am sure that something else is the cause
Might just delete all of my mods and everything and try again. Set it to medium but didn't help
Excellent mod!!! Mega thanks!!!
Thanks very much!
I've downloaded the 3.7 version and have a question regarding the changes I have made to the dynamic settings of some routes. Will the installation of the new GodSave-settings overwrite my previous settings? I would prefer that and have your settings for all the routes.
Yes. If you replace your existing GodMode.sav with one of these presets it will replace everything already there with my setup. Hope that helps & Merry Christmas!
Good! Merry Christmas to you too!
Niddertal Bahn settings are really great, sir. Thank you very much for them and for all the work involved in the making of this lovely and game saver mod!
These settings are incredible: I can't play TSW4 without...
And the instructions are very well done, with all the links to install these settings very easily.
A BIG THANKS !
also to the authors of the mods
Hey i did everything as in the manual but when i want to start a route like BML it crashes and shows me this: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000008
Playing on DX12 - Medium variant - RTX 2060 super - Intel i7 9700
I’m not sure what’s going on there but can assure you that it’s not this mod that’s causing it. The only possible way this mod can cause a crash is if you’re pushing your machine too hard by using too high a set, if this is the case you need to use a more appropriate preset to your hardware. Before your system crashed you would see it working exceptionally hard and likely see visual artefacts too.
If it isn’t that something else is causing the crash I’m afraid. I’d start by removing all other mods and double checking the ones you’re using are compatible with TSW4. Once you’ve done that add them back in one by one as a mod incompatible with TSW4 is almost certainly the root cause.
First. Sorry for the late Reply, Private life....
So There were no artefacts as well. So what Have i done since ? I just reinstalled the whole Game and somehow everything works... your mod (that i changed a little bit for my hardware as you discribe in your Manual) too. BUT without having any mods in my DLC folder (wich is confusing) and ONLY driving AT Night gives Me sometimes less and more Major render lags every few miles (Depends on my Speed in game and yeah i change the 2000 everytime to 200 when driving at Night). But yeah im sure the problem for me was other Mods wich are not compatilbe.
(No problems with lags in the Daybreak and Twilight)
Thanks for your help till now and for later.
Hi the visuals look amazing; however, In addition to the micro stutters we all have thanks to DTG im getting big freezes like 3 to 4 seconds regulary even when running on Medium which just kills any enjoyment in the game. Im running a 3080Ti with 64Gb Ram. Ive had to change to using another .ini file just guess im missing on your amazing work on shadows and lighting. Ive spent the last 2 weeks de-clogging my Nvidia card, using raw drivers, benchmarking, overclocking, undervolting, upping my cache to 100gb etc etc nothing I do makes any difference. Am I missing somthing or is my Rig just not man enough to handle your settings. I love your work, just think on this occasion I might have to pass.
Out of interest, can you try High or Ultra? I’ve no way to test the likes of Medium and as always took some lines out of that pre-set because theoretically it should be better. It may well be that on this route specifically this isn’t the case. I’d be interested to know what you find.
ps There’s nothing here that is causing pauses like that. It must be a shader compilation thing on the first run or so.
So, I did some testing, and I think your right about the shader cache compilation. First, I ran Preston to Blackpool first run was bad, freezing constantly, the second run was as good as can be expected only a few short jitters. Next, I ran SEHS from LSP to Ebbsfleet first run was horrific so many freezes lasting anything from 2 to 5 seconds constantly, second run was good, again only minor jitters, after leaving Ebbsfleet on virgin track the freezes came back. I'm sure I read somewhere that whenever you download new updated drivers this clears your cache, if this is true, I'd better stick with the current drivers. Game looks awesome on the second run. It's a shame the game doesn't download the shader cache as part of the setting up process for each specific run. PS this was on Ultra, 70FPS and 125% Screen so I was pushing it hard.
That’s it. Each time you update your driver it clears the shader cache. This game is in desperate need of the ability to run shader caching from the main menu. The other alternative is that you set a service going from one end of a route to the other, board as a passenger and just let it get on with it. Once that’s done it should be fine.
That’s a great idea, I would never have thought of doing that. Thanks again bud for all your assistance and work on the game.
Same problem here with the low settings.
Low won’t affect your performance in any way. It’s purely changes to the lighting.
Still get long pauses. I am using with dx11 because dx12 is too slow on my machine (i5 8600k, GTX 1650, 16GB ram)
And if you are not using the low preset have you followed the instructions for using this with DX11?
All the best ! Thanks a lot, works very good with Bernina Line !
Thanks!
Hello, version 3.9 Ultra runs great on RTX 4090. Average 90-100 fps, no stutters or crashes on many routes already tested. Very good work.
Thanks. I’ve been spending a lot of time really dialling in the settings on every route for the final version of the GodMode.sav before I switch to text based updates and I think I’ve have made some made some good improvements, I’ve even gone down as far as setting the night skies based on the type of route. More urban? Then the stars will be less bright because of increased light pollution. Middle of the desert? Then you have dark skies and bright stars. I’ve tuned the moon intensity to make it look good at all stages in the cycle so no more bright white clouds at night time with a full moon. Everything looks much more realistic as a result.
Also, as a consequence of what I did for Bernina Line I’ve also made some breakthroughs with performance, and found a way to better adjust the lighting in cloudy conditions to eliminate the over-exposed & blown out look that blights TSW. As soon as the West Somerset update is released I’ll aim to get it out there.
Hey : WSR - ToDv4 - Ultra Only.txt : another world ! Great..
Salut. A big thanks for the final Version 4 ! Merci
Hello Jetwash. So I put -DX12 in the launch parameters. But I think the game is still using DX11. I am using msi afterburner and in the gpu info stats while running the game, its showing D3D11 which i assume the game is using dx11.
My game graphics are set to the High preset. Now that this preset has been removed for this mod, should I use the Ultra or Medium file? Or am I unable to use the mod?
As it says in the manual, the version of the pre-set you use has nothing to do with your in-game settings. To put it simply, use whichever pre-set gives you the best balance between visuals and performance. Again, as it says in the changelog and manual, the reason I removed the High pre-set is that it was no longer needed as I'd reduced the shadow resolution in Ultra anyway, and that was effectively the only difference between the two. HTH
Hi JetWash,
I left a siimilar comment on the Dovetail forum, but thought I would put something here incase you don't pick up the forum. Your latest version seems to cause a clash with the VR plugin. It makes the Right eye have a strange shadow effect which makes things like the cab gauges completely grey. Thanks for you hard work by the way, huge fan!
Found the culprit. This line seems to cause issues in VR:
r.GTAO.SpatialFilter=0
Once removed, it is all back to normal
Is there anyway we could get all the routes in a text form for us on the windows store version? The GodMode.sav is no where to be found.
godmode.sav is normally created by godmode mod
it has nothing to do with windows store
see https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c75-utilities/i2703-tsw-god-mode-alpha-051
For whatever reason on the windows store version it does not create this file but you can enter the text in game and it saves that way really strange.
Hi, I might ask TSC admin If I can somehow tidy this comments page up a bit as things have got lost in the mush. This was a reply to a comment asking the same question from last year;
Really sorry guys, I thought I had replied to this message.
Cheers
Thanks that works.
Great. Sorry there’s not a better solution, it’s very frustrating.
Hi! For me, using medium preset, fog keeps on penetrating the cab, at least in Edimburgh Glasgow route, at the moment the only I've tried in foggy weather. Thanks a lot for your splendid work!
Sorry, perhaps was an error on my side. I've tried another foggy service and the fog is working perfectly, with no fog at all inside the cab. It only happened at the final approach in service 1R88, after a sudden change in weather, from scattered to dense fog in a very short time. Before running that service i tinkered a bit with some parameters... so most probable cause is me... Thank you again for your perfect work!
Hi, as mentioned above there was an issue with previous versions caused by a change in the Winter Core Update 2. That was rectified in version 4.1.1. Please update to the latest version.
Thank you for your response. I was using the 4.1.1 version of the presets. It has happened again, across another foggy weather run in the same route. The issue only seems to appear in really dense fog or when its density changes abruptly. Using 4.1.1. medium preset, as for me is impossible to use Ultra. If you have the time and the mood and give it a try perhaps you could reproduce it, but never mind, it's not terrible :). Thanks again!
Have you tried the same scenario with the default game? I’m pretty sure you’ll see the same behaviour (I did when I was testing) as there’s now absolutely nothing in this mod that would affect fog. I’ll try and recreate the issue if I can.
I presume this was the service as presented in Journey Mode?
Yes, it was the scenario in Journey Mode. And you're right too regarding default game: Same scenario, no settings applied, fog inside the cabin... Thanks a lot.
I’ve just tried E2G and had to force fog on using GodMode. I can confirm the game does it in its default state but it is a bit more noticeable with very dense fog using my lighting but there’s nothing I can do about that.
One thing to note is that if you’re setting fog using GodMode the numbers should be very small. Thick fog should be no greater than 0.1 (0.2 at the absolute max), light mist between 0.002 and 0.005 and a heavier mist 0.009. GodMode lets you set much denser fog than the game menu and I suspect that is causing your issue.
Very kind of you! Thanks a lot for the information concerning GodMode. Will try to adjust fog properly on it. Thanks again!
Not a problem. Let me know how you get on :-)
ps Those numbers relate to ToDv4 routes. Older routes may need slightly higher numbers.
The v4.1.3 is way to dark on Rosenheim-Salzburg.
Download again, just updated.
The issue is that it may look too dark one second then way too bright the next. Getting it right is a balancing act that has many many variables.
Which sections of the text download should be used for Medium setting?
Just a quick confirmation from the start of the manual - are the 'Aran’s ToDv3 Modified Time of Day System ' mods TSW4 compatable? He hasn't listed them as such.
Yes, they work fine. Never really understood why he didn’t mark them as such but I guess didn’t feel the need. Anyway, they’re all good.
Thanks for the prompt response. Now to decide if I want to run them, or Bescot's bloom reduction mods...
Use Aran's TOD and this mod, that's all you need. This mod sets appropriate bloom levels for each route
Hi, it is possible to have clouds on ultra without FPS impact like tweak <TSW3/4 visual normalization> ?
hey thanks for the update.
the game runs smooth now with the new version.
Great work with your mods. They're great.
But unfortunately DX12 no longer works as a launch command. Will this affect the mod in any substantial way?
It does, I’m using it no issue. Can you check it’s done correctly
I may be doing something wrong in that case.
The way I have (tried) to enable DX12 is the following way...
I edited the following line in the MicrosoftGame.config file:
...
<DependencyList>
<KnownDependency Name="VC14" />
<KnownDependency Name="DX12" /> ---- I set this from DX11 to DX12
</DependencyList>
...
Ah, I see. I didn’t realise you were using the Windows Store version. DX12 certainly works with Steam (and the game in theory) because UE4.26 supports it natively. Whether or not Microsoft are allowing you to launch the game in 12 is a different matter.
Assuming you can’t get it to work you’ll need to follow the steps in the manual for use with DX11.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful but I don’t use windows store
No worries. I appreciate it anyway. I probably should go ahead and pull the trigger on getting the Steam version.
Depending on how many DLC you have, there is a great deal on Humble Bundle at the moment for the Steam version. In case you’re worried it is totally legit and genuine. I, and many of us, have used it many times in the past.
That's a good shout, I'll take a look. Cheers!
Hello, no support for Harlem Line or US routes?
There are plenty of US routes in there but I don't own Harlem Line, sorry
Oh, okay. No problem, thanks anyway :D
It’s now included :-)
hello.very good mod.but what about the semmeringbahn? do you work on an ini file for it? this would be great!
Now available!
thank you very much! :)
so now, i have test it....iam speechless! 10 fps more at high settings and it looks so fantastic.works perfect with all mods.i have the other ones from you too and the bescot ones for all avail routes in tsw 4 and ALL are fantastic. i think, you must became a goldmedal for your great work! thank you again. :)
You’re more than welcome. Glad it’s improved things for you 😀
hello :) so now a problem....after the five circle update and the EP mod, i have this out of vram problem.when i remove the ep mod, all is okay..the error occours while the coregame is loading.any idea? lower godmode.save does no effect.ingame settings are all at high except the shadows, they are on middle.pls help. regards heinz
Thank you very much for Harlem Line in the mod
You’re welcome. Thanks for using the mod & hope you enjoy it!
Hitch hitch hitch freeze nonstop with a 4080 is crazy
Nothing to do with this I'm afraid
Not sure if I'm being dense here, but the Datacord on the ECML 66 is going wild.
that won't be anything to do with this mod. It does look like you have a TODv4 Class66 on a non TOD4 route to me
i will pretend i know what means and use the other version of the 66
Is this compatible with this ini tweak, TSW4 (High FPS) Ultra graphics V2.9?
Todays (9/7/24) Cathcart remastered looks broken. Tried Fife settings, no joy.
yeah something is off on that route
hier dasselbe...bitte fixen :)
matelot666 you need to delete this file Aran-GCC-Time-of-Day-Update-v1.0.pak
that will fix it
yeah that seem's to have made things better. Thank you.
thank you very much :) now all looks great at cathcart route.
hello.this inifile is pretty good but i have this problem: LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 671] hr failed at F:/DEV/ND23SUB/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Resources.cpp:450 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET
this occours at the loading screen.i try again and after 5 times it randomly works. can you help me please?
Which loading screen?
It’s nothing to do with this ini file though. I believe this is a bug in TSW4 itself unfortunately
okay, thank you for reply.
The only thing it could be is that you are pushing your GPU too hard. Might I suggest you check your GPU driver is updated. If so maybe look to rollback to a driver version that worked, there are definitely issues with certain Nvidia drivers and UE4
okay, vielen dank! another question about modversion 4.7.can we now use arans mod for time and day time again on calthard route?
No, it’s not compatible at all with the new lighting system. Those mods are only for routes that use the pre-TSW3 lighting system, of which Cathcart is no longer one.
Thank you JetWash.
Since the last update I've been noticing my grass is snapping in and its not that type that you can see from ages away its when you get close it renders. Any way to fix this or have I installed it wrong or something?
For reference I am using the medium zip
I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean after the game update or my update? Nothing in my update has changed except for Cathcart Circle.
Thanks again JetWash for this update on TSW5 ! Great Mod
Denis (France)
You're welcome Denis. Thanks!
Hear, hear - I really noticed how much I missed this in my first couple of runs on WCMLS.
Thanks guys! Glad you enjoy
Crashes on WCMLS with the high one on TSW5
for some reason the new godmode doesnt create a godmode.sav anymore so when I put this godmode save in it crashes. Any suggestions ? On TSW5 that is
Medium also crashes on that route for some reason, everytime I put the godmode save in the game crashes at load of the route.
Not sure if you've covered this, but you can set up Lossless scaling to begin frame gen when TSW starts. You just need to add a custom game profile for TSW, turn on "Auto Scale", and set the delay for however long you want.
I did wonder if this were possible but I haven’t explored it. Would you mind popping here the process to do it? Thanks.
No idea why all these versions keep crashing on WCMLS no issues so far on other routes
Me neither, but this isn’t causing the crash. It isn’t a mod in the traditional sense, they are simply ini changes.
I am experiencing a similar problem with the Frankfurt-Fulda route. Before the last DTG update, this route worked perfectly for me with the Ultra settings. Since then I can start this route but after about half a minute the image completely freezes (I can still hear the audio running). I tested another INI mod (not from JetWash) and was able to complete the activity but it did cause a lot of stuttering. Without the GodMode (and an INI mod), I do not experience any issues. The problem does not occur for me on an older route. Nevertheless, thank you very much for all your hard work JetWash.
Hy JetWash.. i have really help to understand how to install ALL.. PLEASE MAKE a right sequence that i have to follow.
JW, sorry for being a wisecrack, and english is not my native language. But afaik, the term "Graphic" has a different meaning than the one that should be used here, "Graphics". Does that mod contain elements of gore? ;)
The only thing graphic about it is the original lighting. Corrected, just for you
Hi JetWash,
Been following your work since you started the ini tweaks a while back however noticed with my gaming laptop it wasn't up to the task. I've come back to TSW after a 6 month hiatus and wanted to say that with the Lossless Scaling programme, you've made my game go from a stuttery mess in any main station/railyard to smooth as butter. I also don't need sunglasses during the daytime!
Thanks a bunch!
You’re more than welcome! Glad you’re benefitting from both the mod and LS.
Ultra high and medium caused the fife circle line run in a low resolution can you fix it?
That’s one of the more bizarre things I’ve read. Whatever is going on there it is absolutely nothing to do with this mod, sorry.
But when I uninstall the mod or run in the low setting, there is no resolution problem so I think this mod has some wrong caused the low resolution.
And as MonoOnyx said that WCML has the same problem in my game too.
Same as whatcaniday medium and ultra are causing a weird blur/low res on fife circle. gone through all my mods and cant find any clashes
Hi, just wanted to note that the blurryness thats occuring on some routes (not all which doesnt make sense to me) is solved by reducing screen percentage back to 100%, of course if you followed the manual it'd be at 125%.
eg. Happens on WCML and Fife Circle, but ECML and Blackpool Branches are fine.
Hope this helps, fantastic work otherwise :)
Increasing your screen percentage increases the resolution of the game, which is entirely independent of, and has nothing to do with, this mod. Useing Lossless Scaling you are able to gain some performance overhead and the suggestion in the manual is that you use it to increase the resolution to better your visuals. If doing that is causing your resolution to look wrong then there is something wrong with your PC or monitor, as it is doing the opposite of what the game is designed to do. To reiterate again however, the mod itself cannot, and does not, affect resolution in any way.
Could always be one of the other mods playing up, but somethings stopping the downscaling that comes with increasing the setting from working properly some routes. Why they dont apply consistently I have no clue.
Crash with Ultra on WCML after the second tunnel from Euston. Without GodMode.sav no crash, as long as file is there 3/3 crashes for me. Other than that, great mod.
hi jetwash, I wanted to try your mod and everything seems to work well.. the only thing I don't understand is why with the lossless scaling program the game seems to become mushy in movements.. very slow when I turn the camera or change view angles.. It's difficult to explain but I think it depends on the fact that I can't understand how to adjust the FPS and refresh settings of my screen... my screen reaches a refresh rate of up to 143 but now it's set to 60 with lossless scaling set to x3 and FPS maximum in game 20.. can you explain to me what the problem could be? ah.. sometimes the game screen freezes and I have to switch it to window mode and click on the icon again and it starts again without turning off the game..
Limit your fps to 30 and use mode 2.
The problem is VRAM. When you run out of VRAM then things fall apart pretty quickly.
Setting r.Streaming.FullyLoadUsedTextures=0 allows the game to release more VRAM and fixes the issues with Lossless Scaling artifacting and crashing because it is exhausted of VRAM. This is pretty much mandatory on certain routes like WCMLS, London Commuter and Fife Circle.
According to your PDF, regarding Lossless Scaling, "with this program it has been demonstrated that a 3070 can run TSW5 with the Ultra preset"
A 3070 only has 8GB of VRAM, I'm testing this with a 3080 with 10GB of VRAM and in areas like London Euston or other major built up areas, the base game consumes so much VRAM with your "Ultra preset" that Lossless Scaling artefacts then dies, and often crashes. So I doubt the veracity of this.
Admittedly it seems to work very well in areas where there is little scenery such as the countryside.
Experementing more with this, only the 'low' preset seems to use little enough VRAM that it actually becomes quite stable and very smooth in VRAM intensive areas like Euston... unfortunately it also defeats the purpose because the graphics are now set really low.
Nothing is for free, unfortunately.
Setting r.Streaming.FullyLoadUsedTextures=0 allows the game to release more VRAM and (largely) fixes the issues with Lossless Scaling artifacting and crashing because it is exhausted of VRAM. This is pretty much mandatory on certain routes like WCMLS, London Commuter and Fife Circle. The cost obviously is more microstuttering.
That being said I think you should add some warnings because anyone with 10GB of VRAM or less (potentially more, hard for me to test that) is going to have a lot of problems with this tool and your presets.
So i used this mod on tsw4 when i had a 3060 and it worked ok i had stutters and pauses here and there but not to major. I now have a 4090 and on tsw5 presets ultra, high and medium (in game is set to high) all freeze the game for 5-10seconds and its frequent to the point where its not really playable. Ive followd the manual step by step and even used your exact settings in game and on the lossless scaling as i also run 4k but on 144hz monitor so i set losless to X2 on 60fps in game, even tried 30fps X2 and i still get the game freezes. unfortantley il have to remove this especially as when the Route EP's come out it will be even worse. Unless someone knows a fix to keep using this.
Don't know what you're doing but it's a setup issue on your end I'm afraid. I have a much weaker GPU than that (3090) and it is as smooth as you like.
my 4090 loves this eats it all up lol. great work!
Hi, I installed this and am trying to use Ultra on the new WCML expansion, and loading into the game I get an "Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting..." crash message. I have a 3080 Ti, and 64gb of ram. What could be the issue?
Trasher37 is that 4090 placed in the same pc as the 3060 was ?
i asume you have properly removed the old drivers if so?
How do you fix blurring on this idk how to?
Don't know but it's nothing to do with this mod

Hey!
Having this crash... with very high and medium...
LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 1214] GameThread timed out waiting for RenderThread after 120.00 secs
It’s very very unlikely that is anything to do with these changes. I’m not sure what can be causing that.
without knowing what gpu he uses and how much ram is on it
FWIW I found the game was crashing occasionally on the latest Nvidia driver. I’ve rolled back to the last one and it seems to be behaving itself now.
I had exactly the same error. Rolling back to the last good NVIDIA driver set and making sure I chose the right zip fixed it.
Which driver is causing the issues? I was just about to upgrade my Nvidia driver.
