East Coastway Timetable by 2TallTyler

Description

Welcome back to the East Coastway! This timetable is written from scratch using the December 2017-May 2018 Working Timetable to make better use of the stock that comes with the route and add trains which were added after the route's original release. As we know, variety is the spice that makes TSW routes come alive!

Playable services

  • Aggregate freight between Newhaven and Lewes, continuing as AI to points north.
  • Southern Class 313s between Brighton and Seaford.
  • Southern Class 313s between Brighton and Lewes.
  • Southern Class 377s between Brighton and Eastbourne, continuing as AI to Hastings/Ore.
    • (NEW!) Some of these trips run with an 8-car Class 377.
    • (NEW!) A few of this trips run with a Class 313, per the real timetable.
  • (NEW!) Southern Class 377s between Eastbourne and Lewes, continuing as AI to London. Most are 8-car trains, others are 4-car. This doubles the traffic on the Lewes-Eastbourne section of the line and makes Lewes a busy place to watch trains.
  • (NEW!) A few Southern Class 377 and Class 313 trains are stored in Eastbourne Yard during the day.
  • (NEW!) Thameslink Class 700s on mileage accumulation runs between Eastbourne and Lewes, continuing as AI to Three Bridges. Seasonal, January-March.
  • (NEW!) Thameslink Class 700s detouring around early-morning engineering work on the Brighton Mainline, via Lewes.
  • (NEW!) Gatwick Express Class 387s detouring around early-morning engineering work on the Brighton Mainline, via Lewes.
  • (NEW!) Rail Head Treatment Train working the entire route. Seasonal, September-October.
  • (NEW!) A driver training run in a Tees Valley Class 37, or several other substitutable locos. Seasonal, May only.
  • (NEW!) A Regency Javelin railtour from Brighton to Eastbourne, using the 395 from Southeastern High Speed. Seasonal, November only.
  • (NEW!) A Buffer Puffer railtour from Eastbourne to Brighton with top-and-tail Class 20 locomotives. Seasonal, August only.
  • (NEW!) A football extra using a Gatwick Express Class 387. Drive the empty coaching stock from Lovers Walk Depot to Newhaven Marine to await the end of the game, then pick up passengers at Falmer and run express to Brighton. Seasonal, January-April.

AI services

  • Southern Class 377s at Brighton on the Brighton Main Line.
  • Southern Class 313s and Class 377s at Brighton on the West Coastway.
  • Great Western Class 166s at Brighton, twice a day.
  • (NEW!) Thameslink Class 700s at Brighton on the Brighton Main Line.
  • (NEW!) Gatwick Express Class 387s at Brighton.
  • (NEW!) A Class 700 in warm storage at Eastbourne. Seasonal, January-March.

Additional features

  • Trains stopping at a station do not activate level crossings beyond the platform until they stop. This is realistic, plus drivers experience more adverse signals and get to watch the booms come down.
  • Several Class 377 trains split and join at Eastbourne to shift capacity to other trains. This is included. Also, some ECS runs from Lovers Walk to Brighton split in the platform at Brighton.
  • One Class 313 consist runs as a 6-car train in the evening to provide capacity for football games at Falmer Stadium.

Installation Instructions

Download the file 2TallTyler-EastCoastwayTimetable.pak and save it in the WindowsNoEditor/TS2Prototype/Content/DLC folder of your TSW 4 installation.

Additional Comments

  • At Brighton and Eastbourne, multiple pairs of trains enter the same track to couple to each other. Subsidiary shunt signals do not work, so drivers must call the signaller to pass signals at danger (the instruction will tell you about this).
  • Some playable Thameslink trains need to have their circuit breaker reset when starting a service (the driver assist popup will tell you).

What about the Class 171?

In the Working Timetable this is based on, the Class 171 ran all the way from Ashford International to Brighton, via Eastbourne. I have left room for these services but not adapted the Rivet Games Class 170 for one primary reason: these services share platforms at both Eastbourne and Brighton with other trains, on nearly every run. The call-on shunt signals at Brighton and Eastbourne are not set up to allow platform sharing, so the driver must call the signaller for permission to pass a danger signal. Also, trains which share platforms like this must be on the same timetable layer, so the Class 171 would be a required DLC.

Also, I have not done any train modding to adapt a Class 170 to a Class 171.

If another modder was willing to provide a Class 171 that would not rely on another DLC being installed, I'd be open to adding these services. Until then, you can use Free Roam.
