Sherman Hill: More Power

This mod makes the horsepower per ton of loaded trains consistent so you make the westbound climb at roughly 30 MPH rather than 15 with any train. By default Autoracks and Intermodals have 2.8HP/t whereas the manifest only has 1.4HP/t, I don't see any reason for that and crawling up at very low speeds isn't much fun to me. The eastbound only loaded coal has a little less power because the gradient is less severe in that direction, changes made as follows:

If a consist isn't listed it hasn't been changed.

Railroads don't assign more traction to a consist than it needs, because every additional locomotive in a consist costs money (fuel, maintenance, shortened time to inspection/overhaul et cetera). And what "it needs" is the ability to get over the hill, not necessarily to get over it fast. 18-20 mph is entirely prototypical. (On Saluda Mountain, it was 8!)

Fair point, I guess that I am stretching realism a little here by giving everything the HP/T of an intermodal. However, you can of course take locos in the consist offline to make the journey as fast or slow as you like.

One thing I'm wondering about, would you ever get 6 locos on the head end of a train or should I move some into the middle of the consist?

Generally I think 6 on the head end is rare, you'd normally see some mid train and or rear DPUs to keep the train handling reasonable.

Thanks so much! So slow grinds keep me from playing the route much. I get the coal drags being slow but I feel like the Intermodals, Autoracks as high priority trains should be kept moving.

Gives me a CTD on the 16:38 Cheyenne-Hermosa Intermodal service after about 3-4 minutes

Sorry to hear that but I just ran the first 15 minutes of that service and I didn't get a crash.
