Announcing Almtalbahn: Wels - Grünau im Almtal

This week, we showed the first trailer for the Almtalbahn in the charity stream hosted by TSP, Trainsa and JM Simulation and we actually have now a lot of things to share, so let's get started!

Wasn't the Almtalbahn discontinued? Was work being continued?

Actually yes, the original Almtalbahn that I (FreddieTheShepherd) began back in early 2024 and what we call V1, is still cancelled and what you see today, is a complete new start by scratch begun shortly after the cancellation of V1 back in december 2024. There were several reasons for me, to start from new: better LiDAR data, better building skills, more experience and so on, but one thing was for me the biggest motivation: The will to see this route in TSW - it was strong enough to give me once again the power to start such a big project.

A broader Team

Also, since I am now part of the BPH, I have more help and expertise from my dear team members who all already contributed their individual skills to the project. To 3D models from Profile picture of Mabitze Mabitze to God-Mode Support from Profile picture of Foobian Foobian , you can find many people's work in this proejct,

Another remarkable person who is helping us, is Profile picture of Seblay Seblay . You maybe know him already from the Mittenwaldbahn or other routes' timetables and he contributes a fine detailed timetable in early 2025 for the Almtalbahn.

The route itself

The route itself is located in Upper-Austria, beginning in the city of Wels, the 8th biggest city of Austria with over 60,000 inhabitants, going south via Sattledt, an ending point for a few services, to the route's end point GrĂ¼nau im Almtal, located in the valley with high mountains and the name-giving river Alm next to the railway track. On this journey of 43 kilometres, you will go over fields, villages and industrial areas, everywhere equipped with many details to bring the route to life and showcase the beautifulness of Upper Austria.

In addition to the route, V2 now also features a part of the giant freight yard of Wels and the turntable where locomotives are parked, to provide more gameplay and bring a bit more of Wels into the game, than the first version of the Almtalbahn did.

A special side project

Additionally to everything so far, a very special friend of mine, is working on a music theme for the project! You could already hear an early piece of this theme in the trailer released recently and be sure, there will be more to come in the future, also in a soundtrack we will release on our channel on YouTube.

If you're interested in more music of my friend, Vakur, you can check out his Soundclound site for more music he has made so far!

Concluding, we are happy to finally share this news to you all, we and especially I, are very happy that this news are received so well and we're looking forward for the moment, when we can release the demo version and lastly also the full version of this route, where so many love and work flowed in. We look forward for the future, where we share more news and insights with you and in the meantime - be excited! ;)

Hi everyone,
This road is superb, judging by the short video which already shows what it's made of. Another excellent job by the whole team, always striving for optimization. I wish you all a very happy New Year 2026, may it bring you the most relevant ideas blossoming deep within your minds so that you can fulfill your dearest wishes.

Best regards, Tof
