MODDERS NOTES:
Initially, the HSP46s and Rotem Cars from MBTA Commuter were supposed to have subbed into the route's original timetable (as evidenced by looking through the formation properties in the editor) when the MBTA Commuter DLC was released as Boston Sprinter has had subbing enabled since release. However, due to the way that the game allows substitution from other DLC, as well as the virtual length of the formations being too short, the HSP46 and Rotem Cars never appeared in Boston Sprinter's original timetable. As a result, a seperate timetable was created for the HSP46 gameplay pack to allow for the HSP46 and Rotem Cars to appear in the route.
This mod provides the essential fixes to Boston Sprinter's original timetable and scenarios, as well as includes Guard Mode onto the existing MBTA timetable services. For owners of the HSP46 gameplay pack this mod also includes a few fixes regarding the substitution on the formations included with the HSP46 gameplay pack.
Without the use of this mod, the only rolling stock from the MBTA Commuter DLC to be playable on Boston Sprinter on the original timetable and the old scenarios/timetables are the updated F40PH-3C and B/CTC-3 cars from MBTA Commuter.
v1.6 - Released 7/04/25 - See List Below for list of changes made:
-Includes substitution fixes to the MBTA Providence/Stoughton Line HSP46 gameplay pack.
-Removes substitution on the fixed MBTA Formations that are used on a few of the services on the HSP46 gameplay pack's timetable
-Adjusts the substution values to match the original timetable MBTA Formations that were edited to include the HSP46 and Rotem Cars.
v1.5 - Released 6/27/25 - See List Below for list of changes made:
-Adds Guard Mode to the existing MBTA services on the timetable.
v1.4 - Released 5/22/25 - See List Below for list of changes made:
-Removed BPE F40PH-3 and CTC-3 from timetable formations
-Updated all MBTA formations and their substitution probabilities on the scenarios to include only the BOW rolling stock.
-Updated all MBTA formations and their substitution probabilities on the training modules to include only the BOW rolling stock.
v.1.3 - Released 4/11/25 - See List Below for list of changes made:
-Re-created the formations in the FRM_MBTA files, rather than creating the formations in the the NEC_Formation files.
-Removed BPE coaches from the formations due to issues with the doors not opening when loading/unloading passengers
-Re-adjusted the substitution probability to accomodate said removal of BPE coaches from formations.
v1.2 - Releasedd 3/25/25 - See List Below for list of changes made:
-Adjusted the substitution probability on the MBTA formations to generate somewhat more "realistic" formations that were present in 2019 (the timeframe in which the timetable was set in).
v1.1 - Releasedd 3/17/25 (First Release) - See List Below for list of changes made:
-Enables playability of the HSP46 and CTC-5 cab cars on Boston Sprinter
-Adjusted the substitution probability on the MBTA formations to include mixed B/CTC-3 and Rotem car formations.
One Formation For ALL Services
-The MBTA services on Boston Sprinter's original timetable uses only 1 formation for ALL of the services instead of the occasional fixed formations used on many of the services in the MBTA Commuter route. As such, there may be repeated looking formations on several of the MBTA services throughout the route. Only the gameplay pack timetable uses the occasional fixed formations on some of it's services.
Five Cars For All Timetable Services
-All formations on the original timetable are only 5 cars each. Formations that use more than 5 cars are only found in the BPE original scenarios. This also applies to the MBTA Providence/Stoughton Line HSP46 Add-on pack as well, where there are only 5 car formations on the add-on's timetable, and 5 or more cars in the add-on's respective scenarios.
Too Many HSP46s, Too Little F40PH-3Cs
-As a result of the release of the HSP46 gameplay pack, the pack includes seperate versions of the HSP46 and Rotem Cars, along with the Single Level Cars. Be advised that when using this mod with the gameplay pack installed, the chances of the F40PH-3C's spawning are significantly MUCH lower than the HSP46, as you will be seeing more of the latter locomotives on the route versus if you don't have the pack installed. As mentioned above, whether you decide to use the gameplay pack with this mod installed is completely up to you.
MBTA Scenarios - Foundations, Cold as Ice, and Long Way Round:
-The main playable MBTA services uses the BOW F40PH-3C and CTC-3 as the main locomotives instead of the BPE versions and uses a mix of the Single Level and Bi-Level coaches on their respective formations; they do not use the HSP46 and CTC-5 as the main playable locomotives due to incompatibility issues with the objectives needed to progress through the scenarios.
-AI MBTA services uses a mix of the BOW Single Level and Bi-Level coaches on their respective formations, with either an HSP46 or an F40PH-3C as the main locomotive.
Amtrak Scenarios - Marching In, Reverse Engineering:
-AI MBTA services uses a mix of the BOW Single Level and Bi-Level coaches on their respective formations, with either an HSP46 or an F40PH-3C as the main locomotive.
Amtrak Acela Services (Requires Amtrak Acela DLC) - Gimme 5, High Speed US, and I Just Cleaned There:
-AI MBTA services uses a mix of the BOW Single Level and Bi-Level coaches on their respective formations, with either an HSP46 or an F40PH-3C as the main locomotive.
Training Modules - Boston Providence Route Introduction, ACS-64 Introduction, CTC-3 Introduction, F40PH-3C Introduction:
-Due to one of the training modules using a MBTA formation found in one of the scenarios, all of the training modules on Boston Sprinter have been updated as well to include the BOW rolling stock on the AI MBTA services. Note that the F40PH-3C training module is broken as it will not let you progress after the objective "Hold the Start Switch for 4 seconds"; this is due to the fact that the tutorial is linked specifically for the BPE F40PH-3C.

v1.6 - Released 7/04/25
In response to Dinosbacsi since I cannot post pictures on replies...
Interesting, I have seen that a few times with a similar mod that I had installed from discord, though coincidentally enough, that only seemed to happen with the Boston Sprinter rolling stock. I ran through a service with this mod installed and so far no issues with the doors, although occasionally the trap doors would open on the higher level portion of the low level platforms, and even then that only happened once (see image below)

THANK. YOU
omg i thought this would never happen!
Did another run and yeah, there is something wrong when the two versions of coaches mix in a consist. Here is an example of the two single level cars. You can see which is which by the new one having a detailed guard panel and the old one does not. The original Boston Sprinter variants open their doors, while the newer ones do not.

This only happens when they mix. If it's only Boston Sprinter cars or only MBTA Commuter cars, then it's fine.
After some invastigation I have noticed that the MU and communication cables between the two variants of cars are broken.
Here are the cables between two old Bostron Sprinter cars.

And here are the cables between an old Boston Sprinter and a new MBTA Commuter car. The MU cable is there, but twisted and goes through the couplers, while the comms cable is completely missing (I checked both sides)

So I guess it must be something related to this.
After playing several services on BPE with my mod, I can safely say that, apart from maybe the first coach located behind the locomotive, I have not had this issue occur on this route but only a few times at a couple stations, mainly between canton junction and Providence (and even when the issue did arise, it involved the entire formation including the outdated BPE coaches). Unfortunately, since I have not had this issue occur on my end with my mod installed, I wouldn't really be able to fix the issue on your end.
Ah, don't get me wrong, I didn't expect you to fix it. I assumed it is simply an issue with the base rolling stock itself.
I wonder what might cause it to happen for me but not for you. Do you have other mods affecting the MBTA stock that might somehow cause it to work properly on your end? lol
Update: After playing through a few timetable sessions, I have indeed noticed that there is, in fact, an issue on my end where the BOW stock doors won't open when loading and unloading passengers, and only the BPE specific rolling stock will open their doors when loading/unloading passengers. This issue seems to only happen at specific stations such as the Providence and Stoughton stations, as well as playing the BPE CTC-3 cab car.
I'll be issuing an updated version of the mod in the next day or so that will remove the BPE coaches from the formations to prevent this from happening, although the BPE cab car will still remain playable.
Looking at the comments the Dinosbacsi posted, I'm having the same issue where some of the railcars dont have their doors opening. It seems like the rolling stock is mixed with Worchester, and Boston Sprinter rolling stock, causing the doors to not open. I dont think the two versions are compatible.

hello people fellow canadian here wanted to say its not his mod for the issues on the boston run i notice the issues too without the mod if you also look the lights are not turning on at night or not clipping on both marker and inside cab lights... and i can accses the fuse panel box for the reg cab car but yess the door issue remains big! but i also like the lights working lol boston sprinter mainly has the most issue
Any chance you could fix the destination signs for when the bilevels run on the Stoughton line to properly display it? Essentially what I'm trying to say is when you run an outbound train with the bilevels to Stoughton on BPE, the destination signs go blank. Returning to Boston they appear to work though.
I can look into it, though with my semi-limited knowledge of how the editor works, I can’t promise any fixes regarding the destination signs.
This mod is the best!
This is the best! Especially adding guard mode! Not sure how easy it was to do that but any chance of adding it to the amfleet cars too?
Once I figure out how to implement guard mode properly on the Amfleet services (I was having issues when I was trying to implement guard mode on the Boston-Providence specific Amfleets), they will be included in the next update.
Awesome! Thanks! If you figure that out and get bored, feel free to add them to the other routes with Amfleet Cars too! Getting to be an Amtrak conductor in the game would be EPIC!!:)
If you're referring to New York - Trenton (since that is the only other route that utilizes the Amfleet Cars), SpaceyKat has already made a mod in which she was able to include guard mode into the Amtrak Amfleet-specific services, along with correcting the broken NJT Guard Mode. I would recommend checking the mod out: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c19-patches/i3329-nyt-small-patches
There is also another mod in which user mjkcp was able to include guard mode on the Acela trainset for both the Boston - Providence, and New York - Trenton routes, as well as being able to transition between the engine, and the coaches: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c110-pc-editor-creations/i6422-transition-mods-us-trains-acela-guard-mode
If you can figure out how to get all of the passengers from disappearing after the first stop on his making it basically useless, it would be nice! LOL
Any luck/progress with the amfleet cars?
Sadly not at the moment. The BPE Amfleet Cars were putting up an insanely huge fight with me when it came to trying to enable guard mode on them, as when in enabling guard mode onto the BPE coaches the doors would automatically open and close, would not let me signal the driver, and the train wouldn't move to the next station.
I'm debating on if whether or not I should switch out the BPE Amfleets for the NYT Amfleets, especially since SpaceyKat was able to do it on the NYT Amfleets for NYT's Amtrak Services (this would require another DLC to use the mod, something that I really try to avoid doing with my mods), as the door functionality on the BPE Amfleets is different from the NYT Amfleets.
Currently, I'm taking a small break from TSW due to burnout, however, after the DTG Direct comes out, I'll see if I can once again figure out how to implement guard mode and iron out the issues.
If you wish to leave a comment, please log in .
Modders once again doing what DTG can't be bothered to fix. Amazing, my man.
However I did notice that the doors on the MBTA Commuter stock don't open at stations. Only the original Boston Sprinter variants open their doors. Some compatibility issue I assume(?).
Regarding this one, I had another run where I got a full bi-levels consists. The doors worked fine this time around. Might be something to do with the old and new stock mixing?
