The Electrostars are one of the most iconic commuter rail platforms you can find in the UK - all electric, and quite standard trains. Many operators use them and they continue to serve the busiest regions of the network. As the Train Sim World franchise continues to grow with greater quantities of the same train, it's time to produce one mod which affects them all. The audio is as follows:
Plenty of inverter sounds
- The new soundset has separate interior and exterior recordings mixed effectively
- Separate sync sounds are used for trains which are capable of 25kVAC (15P>6P>5P>3P>1P) running or 750VDC (6P>5P>3P>1P) as recorded
- On the interior of the train, the PWM duty cycle is reproduced in real-time using the measured sideband spread from the inductor recordings of the train
- Inductor recording for 25kVAC operation: https://youtu.be/lm3RdMm5pzc
- Inductor recording for 750VDC operation: https://youtu.be/BRwYK2Qv9kM
- These are probably best enjoyed in the passenger mode experience
Detailed gearbox audio
- Not only do I aim to preserve all harmonics as previously mentioned, I use additional cue nodes for smoother transistions
- Recordings are as heard in: https://youtu.be/DmuWcmli-RY?si=D9UhARnutSeZGapC and https://youtu.be/BHQ8Ii0AJeQ?si=xFP4zs3TsJPX-0gk
New running recordings
- Audio sampled from 377419 has been mixed anew to the Electrostars
- There's a 20% chanced that knackered wheel tread sounds will play at high speed
- More running recordings are used with the new mix than before
Additional flange squeals
- Several clips have been implemented for these trains at different speeds
- These have all been recorded from 377419
- At very slow speeds, sporadic scraping noises play
- For moderate speeds, squeals become intense - a realistic volume level
- Once the train travels faster, squeaks are more airy - like a grating sound
- Subtle wheel flange noise can still be heard at high speeds
Dozens more track joint clips
- 93 recorded Class 377 and Class 387 track joint sounds have been added
- More violent volleys of clicks and clacks will start playing as the train travels faster over joints
- Additional sounds have been mixed for the interior of the train
Clearer miscellaneous sounds
- Extra recordings have been included to replace, squeaks, rattles, converters... etc
- Where possible, dedicated recordings are provided for their respective trains such as horns, fan whirs, doors... etc
Affects the following trains
- Southeastern Class 375/9 (Southeastern Highspeed) - SE Blue
- Southeastern Class 375/9 (Southeastern Highspeed) - SE White & Grey
- Southern Class 377/2 (West Coast Main Line South)
- Southern Class 377/4 (Brighton Main Line)
- Southern Class 377/4 (East Coastway)
- Gatwick Express Class 387/2 (Brighton Main Line)

would hope you got plans to do the pacer as well coming out soon as i hate the sound of it sounds like a 101
The issue is that they're basically all gone. But to be fair, the pacers have had a couple different engines and used to be all gearbox before hydrostatic
i might have some recordings lying around somewhere. might try and do something with it but from what i have heard in the stream it sounds fairly spot on
that be great damian after seeing the 1st preview know i now feel a bit better but i cant help but think something is off on it
Good job !
hey I have a question, could you at some time please make your fun soundmods compatible with TSW4? I really liked the different sound for the MAG 423, but now it's just the normal sound :(
I believe Linus Train Tips has started looking into the Train Sim World franchise now. Get in-touch with him about this proposal since he has real recordings of the train. https://www.youtube.com/@LinusTrainTips
aw man, alright
but can you please still port it for TSW4 because I actually like your's more than the real IGBT sound. idk why but please
Basically..., yeahhh? No.
:(
mate the recommended mod you put in does not actually work for tsw4 unfortunately, the files have not yet been updated to tsw4 but i believe its one of DTG's main things to to fix. at least thats what they said in the november roadmap.
Your mods are awesome, but after each update differently named, so I don't know which file to delete. Isn't better name it samely to prevent duplicating them?
This is definitely a you problem - it's not so good like this:
- Not everyone follows the mod so it needs to be made really clear whether the file is different to their one
- The changelog is based on the version I give to the file, I can't date it because nobody remembers dates
- If a new version does not work, I need to be able to quickly backtrack to the one I know works and upload it
For you installing the file, just set the mod folder to alphabetical order. This way the old and new are always next to each other so you can clearly see what to delete... and if you need to find a mod, it is easy to find alphanumerically.
And besides... nobody said you can't just replace the existing file yourself. If you want to overwrite an old file to save 1 click and 1 key - do it. The file name does not affect the content of the mod and this would solve your problem.
I just saying, because almost every author do thing like I wrote. Afterall, good mods.
fix the outside sound horns on the class 377 sounds like u recored it in a empty space is nice inside the cab but outside sorry but its a no if u can get the same sound outside that be great
Alright, I'll pick a different recording later. But it would be an SE 377 rather than from the actual SN 377
thank you
The British Ace really doesn't like this horn. He's said it's wrong, as he works with Southern Rail's 377s. If you don't mind, I'm going to reinstate the one which I know was definitely right and recorded from SN's own 377 with better editing
I test it between London and Brighton. Very good sound mod !
Is it possible for you to extend it for the Class 377 of East Costway Line ? Thanks in advance !
No. To heck with the East Coastway Class 377. Ask Alexendre L if they'll redo the mod which replaces it.
These are all excellent! The 375 is finally drivable after the last update!
Any chance the AWS green signal ping can be turned down a bit? It's really loud on both the 375 and 377. That's my only bit of feedback.
Thanks for all the work you do!
These are not modded but potentially
Yeah that would be cool if it could.
Right now it's extremely loud and it bounces left and right in my headset. I think it definitely needs a tweak
Also it's worth noting that the AWS ping is too loud by default without this mod installed. I'm just thinking you might have the know-how to adjust it. ;)
Exactly, the AWS on the 375 is ripping my ears off, 387 has the perfect sounding AWS. If it would be possible to tone it down a bit it would be awesome, otherwise the soundpack is excellent, loving it!
when is the 158 update coming out?
I knowww. It will happen... eventually. There's just stuff and life and things.
Just enjoy this mod for the time being. I've got lots of recordings made for the Class 158 which you can listen to https://youtu.be/0OK7zrOpCaE
Just a question, when the train accelerates and decelerates, why is there so much screeching for the gearbox sounds when it doesnt sound like that in real life the distinctive whine happens at around 20-25 MPH (Correct if wrong) instead there is a smoother build up, if you have got a different recording where it has that build up and the gearbox sound change this mod will be perfect! Apart from that everything is fantastic!
I don't know what you're saying
Im saying the Deceleration and Acceleration doesn't sound right
But it does because it's directly taken from the recording posted on my channel and here
Recordings are sampled at the following speeds in MPH: 3, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, 33, 36, 41, 48, and 51
To screechy, as these are my local trains and hear them daily it doesnt sound the same
Good mod none the less though the horn is brilliant
I'll put it this way - the recording doesn't lie. You're welcome to listen to all 4 hours of it which includes the 377 and 387 - more than substantiative.
Specifically listen here: https://youtu.be/DmuWcmli-RY?t=12620
The 387 actually has 1 extra sound than the 377 just for this exact moment.
And then if you listen here, you'll see how I've produced it to match as heard from the recording: https://youtu.be/vpe8swX5vcw
Hm interesting the clip you send for the video at the specific point sounds slightly different to ingame maybe its something on my end but there is alot of screeching (like flange but worse) when accelerating even on a straight bit of track
Gearbox sounds perfect now thanks!
Great sounds!
Does it planning to add in East Coastway? (ECW have older Class 377, and sounds are old too)
I tried the ECML 801 sound mod and it crashed at upload. What happens with this one if I try it? Do you have a Soundpad version of the passenger announcements?
Sorry, I do not understand your question. Please read the mod description
I've tried this out properly and 1. the traction motors don't sound quite right and 2. there are lots of wobbly and badly mixed sounds including the doors which I'm sure is TSW rather than the recordings, it's almost there but not quite.. One thing I will say though is that the running sounds are great and you've managed to get those spot on. I don't normally use TSW (since it makes my computer death freeze :/) but it would be great to have some of these sounds in TSC for the 377/387 ap enhancement packs. They've already got the traction motors, doors, etc spot on but the running sounds could be improved which you've got.. I don't know if you even use TSC or have any AP items but if there's a way you could use these sounds to do a small patch with just the running sounds I'd be veryyy happy :)
Difference of opinion
Difference in hearing and memory more like, I've travelled on these units since I was a kid and went to school on them every day so I'd say everything I've just said is a fair assessment. If you can do the running sounds in TSC and patch the AP 377 enhancement that would be great but please leave the rest!
No. I mean you can say whatever but sure, I'll be redoing the pulse modes at some point as well replacing the CHM sample with a new clip from the RCFM version of the Mitrac 4QC. But stuff like doors aren't even anything to mix, they're as recorded. And I have about 30GB of recordings for just these trains alone.
So when I say difference of opinion, I mean difference of opinion. I know that the VVVF clips are a mixed bag, especially 11P and 9P but like it's going to take some time to address this from a pulse mode stand point.
I'm not trying to be harsh or anything, just sharing my honest opinion on what I thought you'd done best as well as what could be improved after hearing the sounds out raw and in the sim. Getting it up to 90 was my favourite part which is why I say you've done the running sounds spot on.
If you're interested in patching the AP enhancement let me know!
Now updated
Good job !
Hey, this mod is absolutly fire like all your others mods
ooohh
any chance of compatibilty with the 377/2 in future?
Yes, update will be pushed this weekend
Great, really enjoying hearing some correct sounds on the /2 ! however, i have just noticed (this is most likely dtg) but the pantograph hum sounds like the 385s?
Yeah I noticed that too. I can replace this in the future when there's more significant changes to do. This mod is fairly big now - quarter of a gigabyte. That means I have to be mindful that big downloads for small changes won't always be appreciated. Regardless of that, the changelog is always small so people can decide for themselves whether they want to commit to installation.
The update is for TSW3 & 4 Correct?
Please, read the changelog.
I ask because I did read it, and only saw.
---Version 15:
-Affects the WCMLS Class 377/2
I am just confirming if it is for TSW4 only?
Just a little confused the top of page shows TSW5 also.
I don't have TSW5 as of yet.
Compatibility: TSW3, TSW4, TSW5 - as stated.
If you're still on TSW4, you'll be able to continue using it without issue
Thank you, I appreciate it. Thank you for the mod and the reply.
Great to see this updated so soon for Train Sim World 5 and your sound packs are the very best for UK traction, makes such a difference. Wouild be good to see the Bakerloo 1972 Sound pack updated for TSW5, so that we don't have to use the default sounds on the West Coast Mainl Line (which weren't fantastic).
Thanks, it's great that you're continuing to update TSW5! You're the best.
Denis (France)
Great to see this updated so quickly for TSW5, thanks!
