The Class 390, the Pendolino which runs along the West Coast, is now here in Train Sim World 5. This sound mod may have the most detailed traction audio I've ever put together, and dare I say... the most traction audio playing from any train in the franchise right now. It's not the fastest train in the world, and not the most efficient train in the world either, but it is definitely unique and Britain's longest standing tilting train in revenue service. Let's see what this mod has to offer:
Real traction recordings
- Different sounds taken from real Class 390s running the West Coast Mainline in real life, and the Class 334 which uses the same traction technology
- Highly detailed Periodic Carrier Frequency Modulation (PCFM) recorded from the Class 390 with dozens of time-period-accurate clips
- 84 gearbox sounds and 55 Onix 800 carrier frequency sounds are heard at all speeds of the train in high fidelity
- Detailed Class 390 sounds improve the interior motoring experience
- Separate sounds are used when close to the train and when far away from the train to boost variety
Vastly superior running audio
- 48 running recordings taken from the Class 390 in and out of London
- Separate close-up and far-away audio clips make approach sounds and passing sounds of the Class 390 realistic
- Separate interior and exterior running recordings improve the sense of speed
- Two sets of interior running recordings with a random chance for each to play
Dozens of track sounds
- Faint rail singing is included in the audio mix when the train approaches and passes at a far distance
- 94 track joint recordings are included at crystal clear quality for the Class 390
- Many more speed-dependant flange sounds have been mixed for a better experience
New Class 390 Horn
- Alternative Class 390 horn recordings from Euston
- Separate close and distant horn sounds are mixed in to add a new sense of distance fading that isn't just processing effects
Miscallenous audio
- New Class 390 saloon HVAC whirr and rumble
Known issues
- In-game frame time and performance affects the responsiveness of playing horn audio... this may result in popping/clipping but will be addressed eventually

Oh wow! Just did a run and it sounds great! Great job!!
Excellent work, now port it to TSC! (half-joking)
You've been waiting on SmolChopper to finish his mod for like over a year now right? That's an insanely long time...
I don't do TSC, but you've at least got this which will basically be the pinnacle Class 390 sound mod of 2024.
Oh no, my avatar gave my identity away loool
Yeh, I thought their 390 running sounds were really good and I wish for a release all the time. You're very right though, this is a really great sound pack I will continue to enjoy in TSW for the time being :>
Hey Great. Thanks a lot for for the speedy delivery ! All the Best
Denis (France)
Amazing work, i;ve just commented on the You Tube video - now it really sounds like a Pendolino!!
Dovetail Games, sign him up now!!!!!!!
your work as always is absolutely amazing. Dovetail games put to shame.
Excellent mod! If you need any sounds or reference material, I work on them on depot. Feel free to drop me discord message.
Already an update!!
Also will the sounds be avaible for ts classic?
Unfortunately not, I know this is often something people want but I have no desire to work on TSC content.
Amazing Work
Ive heard it on videos and sounds amazing. Shame it's not compatible for consoles.
I know, it's frustrating that only 1/3 of people get mods
Great work as usual, thank you.
Hear, hear! Sounds great, thanks.
Jolly good show!
Overall I think your creation is very good the externals especially, the track sounds and transmission sounds are great.
What I do feel is that the drivers cab transmission sounds are too loud especially at hi speeds.
I am not going to point you in the direction of someone’s camcorder or mobile phone footage featured on YouTube, but to a professionally video of a Class 390 service from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly filmed in 2019 by Video 125’s Driver’s eye view series that I own.
You will hear that the in cab sounds are more subdued and that the predominant sounds at speed come from the track and not the transmission.
I have watched this Bluray over and over again with commentary Off

Please accept this comment in the spirit it is meant. I know what it’s like when something you have spent hours over get criticised. I created hundreds of skins for combat flight sims in the past, and nit picking is a pain.
This, I can do.
Hey, thanks that is good news. It will also make it easier to hear the Vigilance tone when it goes off. I'll keep my eyes open for the update. Thank you.
I've already pushed the update 2 hours ago...
Thank you. I look forward to taking a drive. I will not be back on TSW5 until Saturday.
Good week
Hey ItsYa, I was going to comment on the sound being quiet but going from the above message it would be pointless for me to comment on this..
Is there a chance you could make a loud version of the sounds like the last mod? Supplementing the current mod which would be a little quieter in cab..
I am a fan of hearing the traction motors in the cab so the last mod was wonderful (Like music to my ears haha)..
If there could be two different versions one being louder and one being a little quieter like this current mod, That would be amazing,
Thanks man. Hope to hear back from you.
I know that I've somewhat taken something away, but you can still enjoy the gearbox if you use the 3 camera to go inside the train.
Ah yeah I guess that'll do, I'll continue to use the old mod for now, But yeah as I said above it'll be great if there were two different versions.
Cheers man.
Hi Ninjaa, I always keep a previous version of any mod till I am completely happy with the new version. I had a feeling that some folk would prefer the higher cab volume values. It is great that ItsYa165 has provided us with an option.
Hey Mercdriver, Is there a new mod? If so I'm not seeing it..
As I said above having two different mods one being a higher volume and one being the current one.. would be great, It is entirely up to ItsYa if he'd like to do this though..
Hi ItsYa165.
Are all of your current sound mods compatible with TSW5?
Most of them do, yes.
Yesterday I took 3 services in the 390 and the sounds now imho are spot on. Well done and thank you.
The 350 is also very impressive, great work. I downloaded your catalogue great work.
Hi, I noticed when im in guard mode or simply just sitting in the train the run sounds go from subdued (which is how it should be) but then changes and it goes louder and it keeps on doing it for the duration of the route, when driving the train from the cab this doesn't happen any idea why?
?
Make a video
I've just ran it and haven't noticed any particular issues. The saloon and cab are not the same environment. Naturally, running audio becomes louder with speed because the train kinetic is also increasing...
Heres the video: https://youtu.be/PlkqzJSIuLs
This is what I mean
That's a technical issue with TSW's engine. I can do something to make it less noticeable, but this can't be fixed.
Yeah to be honest I had an inkling it'd be that everything else is good though although I was wondering if you could make the passing by sounds fade out a little bit longer other than that sounds are great!
I actually can't. All looping sounds cut out after 300m, and I don't know if this is like a global DTG project setting.
Alright, no problem. Good day!
Actually 1 more thing, would you be able to add reverb when going through tunnels like you have on the class 350?
This was already done for all trains by DTG Rhys. It's nothing to do with me.
Okay no problem!
Hello again, I'm making this comment becuase it's getting to a point where it's irratiing me now, I've noticed that the audio doesn't flucuate when you are sitting in the front coaches, it's only the rear thats the problem, but the thing that is bugging me most is that the audio is meant to be subdued at all times but when driving the train the old audio is the predominant one and occasionally the audio will just randomly switch to the subdued sounds or the other way round, sometimes I have to go into the external view to get the audio back to subdued and sometimes that doesn't even work, I suspect it may be you have 2 running sounds audios and they change randomly as you have stated as one of your features however I believe, one is for the subdued and one isn't and a possible solution would be to either remove the old audio or change it but thats just my speculation also when the correct audio is playing the sounds change again to the old audio when I come to a complete stop the audio changes, would you be able to update this if possible?
Good job !
Oh the misery

Honestly you always put the DTG sound engineers to shame every time! Great stuff!
